New or inexperienced obedience/rally handlers

Are you a new or inexperienced obedience or rally trainer learning to train heeling to your first competition dog?

When you teach your dog a new skill, it goes smoother when you get your physical cues, positioning, and communication in order. In addition, planning and practicing these movements without your dog will create confidence in you and allow your dog to learn the skill faster and with less repetition.

Unfortunately, most skills are taught without thinking about the handling first. Therefore, training the skill with the dog without considering handling can cause undesired handling habits to occur. These habits can cause mistakes by the dog during training and in competition. They are also tough to break once the trainer has practiced them.

Whether you are experienced or inexperienced in teaching heeling to your dog, join me for a unique opportunity to learn how to handle your dog for heeling in Obedience or Rally. The class I’m offering through FDSA is called “OB600 – Healing your Heeling Handling”. In this class, I teach you how to use your upper and lower body to cue the different heeling skills. I have a different approach that is not based on footwork. This class is for the handler; the dog can be added if the handling is comfortable and consistent. We have a lot of fun in this class.

I judged all classes in obedience trials for more than 20 years. That includes three National Obedience Tournaments. So I have a lot of experience observing and evaluating handling.

Class starts on February 1st, 2023. Here’s a link for more information about the class as well as information on how to enroll.
